Surfing Famara Beach
Most people visiting Lanzarote never make it to Famara. They stay in the resort towns in the south, enjoy the sun, and fly home without knowing that 45 minutes up the road there’s one of the most extraordinary beaches in Europe.

Famara sits on the northwest coast of the island, facing the open Atlantic. It’s wide, long, and almost entirely unspoiled. Behind it, volcanic cliffs rise sharply, dark, dramatic, and unlike anything you’ll find on a typical holiday beach.
Consistent waves, all year round
What makes Famara special for surfing is simple: the waves don’t stop. The northwest-facing coastline picks up Atlantic swell more reliably than almost anywhere else in the Canary Islands. There’s no season where the ocean goes flat. Summer brings smaller, gentler waves ideal for learning. Autumn and winter deliver more powerful swells for those who want to push their surfing further.
This consistency is rare. Many surf destinations in Europe only work a few months a year. Famara works every month.

The atmosphere
Caleta de Famara, the small village at the end of the beach, has managed to stay exactly what it is: a quiet fishing and surf village. There are a few bars, a handful of restaurants, some surf shops. No nightclubs, no souvenir stalls, no all-inclusive resorts. The people who come here came for the ocean, and that shapes the whole energy of the place.
At Kalufa Surf School, this is our home. We know these waves, these cliffs, and this wind. Come and see what makes Famara special for yourself.
